Belém Cultural Centre

The Cultural Centre of Belém is the largest building with cultural facilities in the whole country.

It occupies a total of 100.000 square metres and is the work of Architects Vitorino Gregothi and Manuel Salgado; the interior was planned by Daciano Costa. The CCB at present contains 3 centres, distinct though complementary, in accordance with a modular concept, which allows for the greatest possible flexibility and efficient functioning.

The Conference Area provides a close and dynamic link with the most varied business and professional sectors.

The Entertainment Area is equipped with two Auditoriums and a Rehearsal Room with 72 places.

The Exhibition Area has ample spaces and galleries for exhibition of plastic, arts, architecture, photography and design.

The Educational Area provides a close link between the Foundation and schools of various levels as well as other institutions, guaranteeing the cultural formation of the very youngest pupils.

The Formation Area is the most recent service of the Foundation of the Cultural Centre of Belém. Courses, seminars and Conferences are directed towards formation in professionalism and aim at modernisation, acquisition of acquisition of further knowledge skills and specialisation in the different areas of the Arts, and culture.

Also available is the Jacques Delors Information Centre and which provides services for restoration, shops and garden areas. The CCB has already hosted important events like the summit meeting of the Heads of states for the Organisation of Security and European Cooperation (OSCE) and, in 1999, it has been also the site of the Design Museum.
